Bioceramic MoonSwatch - Mission to Earth

Hands-On with Two MoonSwatch Models

In an unexpected collaboration between Swatch and OMEGA, the watch world saw the most interest in a release from any manufacturer. Owned by Swatch Group, the OMEGA’s Speedmaster is an iconic in its own right. However, the watch is still at a price point that many couldn’t stomach purchasing. While the Speedy is enjoyed by all, Swatch on the other hand is the affordable. The marriage between the two ignited interests well beyond the watch community and resulted in people camping out in front of Swatch stores across the world days in advance of the release.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a pair of the releases. Below are my first impressions.

The pop of color to the cases adds a bit of youth to the watches. The crowns are signed with the Ω x S. Interestingly, there have been a handful of reports that the dye has been leaving blue stains on the wrist of buyers.

While it appeared the majority of people talking about the MoonSwatch releases were adults, the watches have a very youthful spirit. I was thrilled that my first conversation on the models were with a young man who appreciated the design and price accessibility (at retail). As he wasn’t following the social media buzz, there was no concern with hype, or resale value. The finer points were discussed, such as the “neat-velcro strap” and how the watch “wears really light because of the plastic case”.

We carefully examined the chrystal’s “S” logo which resided in the place which the “Ω” has been accustomed to over all these years.
