OMEGA Seamaster 300 reference ST 165.024
by Charlie Dunne
The Seamaster 300 is one of the great sports watches which emerged in the robust case sizes during the 1960s. The younger siblings most certainly can be alienating to those adamant for watches above 35mm. While they do offer great brand cache in the lower price points, the “smaller Seamasters” such as the reference 2802-8 SC, are very different than the professional divers.
This OMEGA Seamaster 300 on the other hand is macho. The bold-twisted lugs give it a more harmonious presence on the wrist, even for those who gravitate to the smaller sizes. The case is 41mm in diameter ( 44mm lug-to-lug) and the lug width is 20mm. In this instance, the watch is vibrantly paired with a nice calf-skin leather resembling an orange peel.
One of the detractions for some people within the Seamaster series are the dials that bear the “coathanger S”. The present 300’s dial does not include this version. It is more natural and appears more coherent. The font is thicker, and still maintains the stylized cursive.
"Coathanger S" found on OMEGA Seamasters such as the present reference 2802-8 SC.
