A Terrific Tissot Reference 6605-3
By Charlie Dunne
This specific vintage Tissot is a very special watch. Several aspects of this timepiece are worth highlighting. First the robust-steel case at 35mm in diameter (or 43mm lug-to-lug). The dial is absolutely beautiful featuring luminous-Arabic numerals and the incredible “Tissot” signature.
The luminous sword hands strikingly resemble those of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic reference E168. The drilled lugs add just the right amount of flair to the timepiece.
Just above the “Swiss Made” at 6 o’clock resides an oversized subdial. It features concentric circles, and an aggressive seconds hand. The odd hours are marked with round mirror-polished hour markers next to the luminous outlines.
The Movement
The watch is powered by the Tissot calibre 27 manual wound movement.
The screwback case emphasizes its antimagnetic, shock-resistant, and waterproof attributes. With a case back stamp indicating 6605-3, 6706, and 6705, one simply thinks “make up your mind, Tissot”.

Interestingly. the watch can be seen described as a “Camping” model within several ads during the 1950s. Although, this particular model does not feature the decorated dial like within the marketing material.
