Overshadowed by the prolific sports models are many incredible timepieces from Rolex. Date and Datejusts featuring the blue “Mosaic” or “Shantung” dial are among some of the most exceptional options. These watches capture both a casual and elegant style that could make for a perfect one-watch collection. The featured timepiece belongs to a collector who fell in love with the character which developed on the dial’s surface over the past 60 years.
The engine-turned bezel complements the textured dial as well as the notched crown. The dial is a 'pie-pan' style, meaning that the exterior is slightly lower. It is a particularly nice detail as it spotlights the raised hour markers. Throughout the mosaic dial, hints of orange and brown have developed in a unique pattern.
The case is very sharp and remains unpolished. From the profile, one can see the crown is underlined indicating the twin-lock system is used within the Oyster case.

While many of the Rolex models look at home on a bracelet, this particular example is very versatile. Paired on a pebble-grain Hermès strap, the slight discoloration and texture of the dial is a beautiful match.
