‘Opinions On The State of Vintage Watch Content’

By Charlie Dunne

Your favorite watch nerd, aka Eric Wind, set the weekend off early yesterday morning along with HODINKEE’s Jon Bues in the latest Reference Points ‘A Comprehensive Collector's Guide To The Rolex Explorer I’.

Although I haven’t made my way through the write-up, the video was a home run. A small Easter Egg within the video can be seen on the Palm Beach-based collector’s wrist.

While listening in on a conversation pertaining to a recent write-up on the big H that wasn’t necessarily “nerdy enough”, I was hesitant to chime in with a counterpoint to these in-depth articles that perhaps speak to the vintage enthusiasts. I regret not being a bit more vocal on the matter, as I honestly don’t expect every post, review, article, etc. to be catered towards my interest (particularly from a single outlet for that matter). At this point in my obsession, there are so many things I would love to see written about that it is hard to find a place to start. And to be honest, it is partially the reason I decided to start writing about the subjects I enjoy in the first place. While the masses haven’t swarmed to my website assuring me that I have the makings of something epic (tell your friends), I honestly find the process to be greatly rewarding. Even when it is just one person reaching out to say a positive remark, or correct a misinterpretation, it makes my day.

One of my favorite writers recently told me that I should try to make my content/newsletter more personal. So when it comes to the future, I will likely be working to add more of this into the mix. With that in mind, you may see me sharing from others’ work that I enjoy reading - as well as more in-depth and original content here. Anyways, if you’ve made it this far down and are still with me, thanks.
