Watch Spotting: Christian Zeron’s Cartier Santos Carreé
While skimming the IG stories, I noticed that Theo & Harris founder Christian Zeron appeared to be in a tropical setting unlike that of his northeastern residence. I DM’d the watch celebrity and demanded to know his whereabouts, to which he replied instantly “Palm Beach!”. It had been around four years since we last crossed paths - a night in which he picked me in Manhattan to find Brooklyn’s finest New York Pizza. Needless to say, when I convinced him to grab breakfast at my favorite spot he was game.
Christian showed up on the scene in true Gordon Gekko fashion rocking a gold Cartier Santos Carreé. Ironically, his watch was not set to the correct time. We had a chuckle and repeated the alleged Andy Warhol quote.
When asked why he loves the watch on his wrist, he cited “It’s small, slim, precious, and probably only splash-proof. But, in my view, not only is it Cartier’s greatest sports watch to date, but it is also one of the most brilliant from any manufacturer.”
Zeron’s affinity for Cartier has been something he has remained outspoken about throughout his career. Like most collectors, it is apparent he is more drawn to the brand’s design citing he had “no idea” of the reference number. The timepiece simply resonated to him and is an essential in his collection. Discussing the past year’s hype for the brand, he recalled “stupidly” selling a Cartier Crash before being able to cash in on the craze.
We were soon joined by Eric Wind who sported his vintage Heuer Skipper. After gaining the title of loudest table in the Cafe, we took the conversation outside to snap some wristshots and Eric shared a special timepiece with Christian.
