While working out the rough draft of an upcoming article, I was messaged by Tony of Rescapement about a familiar timepiece he noticed on the Instagram stories of Alvin Chong, better known as @watchrology. Chong’s social media has been a hotspot for Cartier lovers, and more recently he has dedicated the wonderful content to be housed on his official website https://www.watchrology.com/.

It turns out that while he was visiting Geneva for Watches & Wonders, Chong was invited to view several timepieces within Cartier’s vintage collection. Most notably, the Cartier Cintrée which Fred Astaire gifted to Felix Leach Jr. For those that may recall, I wrote about the timepiece last year for Rescapement in the article Felix from Fred 29'

Additionally, Chong shared another timepiece which was highlighted earlier this year within the article ‘Each of The Known Cartier Eight Day Wristwatches’. This was a fantastic Eight Day wristwatch to see surface, as there were so few examples produced.

A special thank you to Watchrology for kindly allowing S.V.W. to reshare a portion of his experience with Cartier.

“The following two Longines reference 5356 wristwatches share a story from the 1952 Winter Army Championships in Andermatt, a village located within the heart of the Swiss Alps. During the annual competition a Swedish soldier’s achievements in not one, but two trials earned him a pair of Longines reference 5356 timepieces. One wristwatch, earned by ranking 2nd in the International Military Single Ski Race, enjoyed a lifetime on the wrist. The second, earned by placing 1st with his team in the International Military Ski Patrol Run, was left unworn - as if with the intention to show future generations the original aesthetic of a watch produced in Saint Imier during the early 1950s.”

AB Svenska Urdepoten “ASU” Chronograph

Little is written on the retailer Svenska Urdepoten. The Malmö-based retailer was allegedly founded in the early 1920s by Arvid Jansson in his mid-twenties. By 1930, ASU would have several locations in Sweden. The company would remain in business throughout wartime and eventually go out of business in the 1990s. Within the article, we will take a moment to examine a 1940s chronograph that came from the Swedish watch brand.

Episode 12: Episode 12: MoonSwatch Madness and Breaking Down Rolex + Tudor 2022 Releases

The watch besties are back! We haven't been on mic since before MoonSwatch Madness swept the nation -- nay, the world -- so we talk about the Swatch x Omega MoonSwatch, and our favorite "Mission". Then, we dig into the releases from Tudor and Rolex at Watches & Wonders 2022 in Geneva. Oh, and three of the besties met up in Chicago at Wright Auction for a talk by the inimitable Eric Wind, so we recap the fun times that were had by all and a few secrets from Eric’s “Watch Collecting 101” presentation.
